How Holberton School started
Initially launched in Silicon Valley in 2016, Holberton School has since expanded to 30+ campuses across the globe.
Holberton’s founders noticed that there simply wasn’t a viable path into software engineering for ‘career-switchers’, so they launched a school to solve this problem.
More than 4,000 students have graduated from Holberton worldwide, with Alumni now working at LinkedIn, Google, Tesla, Docker, Apple, Dropbox, Facebook, Pinterest, Genentech, Cisco, IBM, and more.
Why did we launch Holberton School in Australia?
Australia needs 500,000 more tech workers...
Australia needs 1.2 million more tech workers by 2030, but there’s only 7,000 tech related graduates coming out of University each year. There is a disconnect between talent supply and demand.
To reach 1.2 million tech workers by 2030… 500,000+ Australians need to start tech careers. 100,000 of these need to be career-switchers. That’s a lot of people!
But university is too long and theoretical...
Ok, so there’s a tech jobs opportunity to capitalise on… but most of us don’t have the time to commit to a 3-year degree in computer science, especially if we’ve already been to university!
Even if we did, the old-school method of watching lectures, taking notes, and doing exams is not reflective of industry needs – it doesn’t prepare you workforce.
And bootcamps aren't deep enough...
On the other end of the spectrum are the bootcamps. Put simply, they’ll teach you a programming language, but they won’t prepare you for work.
Bootcamps are great for up-skilling if you already have a technical base. But if you’re starting from scratch, a 3-month bootcamp simply isn’t deep enough… especially if you’re changing career.
So, we launched Holberton in Australia
We wanted to make a career in tech more accessible, to more Australians. So, we launched Holberton School Australia in January 2022.
Faster than university and deeper than a bootcamp, Holberton offers aspiring software engineers a practical and collaborative pathway into tech, with equal emphasis on technical and soft skill development.
We launched Holberton in Australia to provide career-switchers and up-skillers with a pathway into a tech career that is faster and more practical than University, and deeper than a bootcamp.
